Did you know that you can make popcorn in the microwave (kernals not the pre-bagged stuff)?
A few of my older kids/ young adults have been practicing their microwave skills. I made a worksheet with several different times, both written out and numerically and they must show me how they type the number in correctly (ie. 47 seconds, :42). Once they mastered this and the safety basics (no foil in the microwave, make sure the dish says microwave safe, how to know when popcorn is done popping) they are taught simple recipes.
One of my older teen clients made popcorn. She can get distracted with too many verbal or written directions so we stuck with basic visual directions. Worked like a charm! (Although our popcorn didn't quite need 3 minutes so listen up.) Oh and we made ours basic. But you can make it even more yummy by adding real butter, popcorn salt, ranch seasoning, a sprinkle of sugar!
*You can make visual directions for your children... tooth-brushing, making a PB&J, folding a shirt, nightly routine! If your child can't figure out numbers, just make sure your directions go completely in order from top to bottom or left to right.
